Healthy Butterscotch Cookies (with oatmeal) VS Famous Amos'

It has been a busy start of year 2012 for us! With our newly released (but actually prototype-kind-of) cookie, the healthy butterscotch, yup, haven't got a name for it, many have been reviewing and giving positive feedbacks to us though! Which...we totally appreciate it!

Why did we decided to make these? Well we tried to match ours with Famous Amos' actually. Yes they have the same flavour, butterscotch as well, but not with oatmeal. The results? You can order some and taste the difference! Once you do, spread it on your Facebook, Twitter or any other social medias that you use! :D

Our objective here is to let as many people know about AFookies. We have been doing this for about 2 years and of course, what a bumpy road we've been through!

And as for this butterscotch cookies, we thought of baking them only for special occasions! Yes! Special occasions! We would like to see how many of you agree or disagree with this. Do drop your comments for this matter, thank you!

Beyonce's Daughter & Eggs Replacements

Okay haha I know this is nothing related to cookies at all! But yeah I'll get to that later!

What I'm gonna post this time is ways on how u can replace eggs whenever you intend to bake cookies! Can't find any eggs at home? Lazy to go out and grab some? No big deal! You'll be surprised that there are actually a lot of ways for you to replace them...or it, just in case your recipe requires 1 egg only!

So these are the optional ingredients that you can use!

1) Corn syrup
2) Peanut butter
3) Marshmallows
4) Jam
5) Melted chocolate

Obviously melted chocolate is my favourite one! All 5 acts as the same binding agent as eggs but yess you guess it! Eggs do the perfect job in getting all of the creamables, dry ingredients together!

And if you use marshmallows, it is much advisable to melt them in microwave for seconds and QUICKLY mix them with the other ingredients. If you don't they'll become like rubber! No kidding!

Okay so Jay Z made a song for his daughter (Blue Ivy Carter). Beyonce loves it! What can you say, it's DOPE! And it's sweet!

Barts Cookies

Okay so I was strolling over Youtube videos for ideas on cookie packaging and I found this video from Barts Cookies (www.bartscookies.com). His cookies sure look good but they ain't crispy as ours. Their concept is more towards puffy and chewy cookies, something like that. But I love the oozing melted chocolate chips from the cookies. Makes you feel like having them right away! Ordering them...I mean.

I tried to google search an image from their website but couldn't find any. So here's a video from their Youtube channel. So this is how they pack their cookies. Easy. Not much of a presentation but ensures safety for deliveries. I wonder if this Bart guy is still baking now?

And I went to check out the website too, and found out, that the website was even visited by Malaysian residents! Quite a lot of Malaysian are consuming his cookies! Talking about branding here! He's kind of good! Despite Bart is actually a trainer and a lecturer as well.

How To Store Your Cookies

Okay so quite a lot of you wondered and asked, 'how do i keep the cookies without getting them stale?'. Clearly you guys did not do your homework HAHA!

Okay so there are two methods for you to use, depending on the kind of cookies that you wanna store. These two kinds are, the soft cookies and the crisp cookies. As for AFookies, we only make crisp cookies, FOR NOW! :D.

So this is how you keep your soft cookies,

-Store them in a container with a tight lid

-Soft cookies have a lot of moisture in them, so if they tend to dry out, add a slice of apple to the container

And this is how you keep crisp cookies (or AFookies),

-Crisp cookies should be kept in a container with a loose lid, but tight enough to prevent air ventilation

-Crisp cookies are supposed to be dry, so if they catch moisture, redry them by putting a piece of bread to the container to absorb moisture

That's all folks!

Get Slim With Cookies

First of all, i wanna start by referring that AFookies' cookies are all made with healthy ingredients! We can guarantee you that, and of course, our cookies do not contain nuts since we are afraid that some of you might have allergies against nuts so it really is a concern for us to take precautions! Here I would like to list you out the benefits of eating cookies! Yes one has been list out as the title above! Bet you girls are jumping happily now for finally found an alternative way to slim down while still having a good eating appetite, not having the guilt consuming sugar confectioneries! Alright here are the benefits of eating cookies!

1)Cookies are high protein, high fiber foods that are designed to eliminate hunger and cravings.

2)Provides all the nutritional support, energy and fullness and replaces your daily 'energy bar' to boost your performance each day.

3)Releases and relieves stress as they are also categorized as 'comfort food'.

4)Cookies are perfect as desserts after meals or as 'fullers' to make you feel full eventhough u didn't consume enough for your meal time.

5)It has been proven that eating cookies are a method of dieting, replacing meat for your meals to cut down all of the unnecessary calories while still making u feel full.

Cookies usually contribute to your health and essence of mentality to make you feel better. However, there are a lot of types of cookies out there which I will mention in the next post! Each of them has their own specialties, and some even were accustomed to their late traditions that lead to their present tastes and looks!

Elmo Loves You!

:)

Been a week since 7 Fun Facts About Cookies was posted. Honestly, I did NOT know cookies were originated in Persia! :O

Alright, partner. We're gonna be doing some reminiscing on our childhood years in this entry. Well, I am, at least. No matter. Let's try going through our memories and recollect whatever that's left together, shall we? :)

#1 - Remember Sid? Or more famously-known as the Cookie Monster? C'mon. Look me in the eyes and tell me you've never heard of the so-famous Sesame Street character. Can't, can ya? Thought so ;). Back to Cookie Monster, remember how his voracious appetite always led him into the frenzy mode, wiggling his "googly eyes" whenever he saw cookies? And his famous eating phrases? "Me want cookie!", "Me eat cookie!", "Om nom nom nom" (said through a mouth full of food). I miss the time when I would just flip through the pages of my Sesame Street ABC book. And sure enough, I remember the letter 'C' stood for 'Cookie'. Never knew it'd be my niché, 15 years later :')

#2 - Ever heard of the Girl Scout Cookies? Conspicuously, they are cookies sold by Girl Scouts. We don't have this in Malaysia, though. Still, I wanna share some information (as general as they may be) with every one of you who's reading this. I've always known about Girl Scout Cookies via television. According to my past, ze girls' main objective is to raise fund for their local Scouts units. Now now, ain't that something we ought to be proud of? Some say the girls won't make $100 in a month. Well, noble intentions sometimes yield noble results, don't they? This tradition of Girl Scouts having to sell cookies have been going on for decades, maybe centuries. Has anyone noticed there were Girl Scouts selling cookies in the Tooth Fairy movie? Look closer, if you haven't :>

#3 - Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Okay. During this time of the year, cookies are considered as staple food, almost. It's impossible for Mum to not bake any before Raya approaches. I'd usually help Mum and Grandma by rolling out the cookie dough while I secretly get my hands on a few chocolate chips hehe :B. Tell me I'm not the only one who does this. Please? For one thing, NOBODY can get their hands off the cookie jar. And I mean, nobody. The cookie jars will always be half full empty during Ramadhan or on the eve of Raya, if it can last that long. Don't you miss sneaking up in the kitchen, looking for them cookies at every nook and cranny? And you suddenly have this strong intuition on its whereabouts: the top shelf. Finding the cookie jar is one thing, REACHING it is another.

Okie dokie, Olie.
That's all for today's reminiscing, folks! :)
Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha to you who's taken the time to read our blog <('.'<)

P/s: It's 5.06 AM now. I'm stopping it here cause I've got to get some rest. Apologies!

Famous Amos' Secret Recipe

Okay it's not that as if we were to compare ours and theirs (though we actually did HEHE) but it sure looks like everyone has been looking forward to know more about their recipe, so we did a bit of a research and we found this, a quite entrusted link for their mulit-million dollar secret recipe. Not sure whether it is real or fake thought it sure seems like a joke to us HAHA. As we all know, their cookies taste GREAT. Like seriously, everyone loves Famous Amos, especially when you walked past by their kiosk, you'll feel tempted to go and buy their cookies right away! Still, they have one disadvantage, their cookies are a bit too sweet. It depends on people's preferences, really. We make cookies that are satisfying to all of the consumers taking notes of their texture, sweetness and taste and we are glad that people have been complimenting, saying that ours came to their liking, thank you guys!!! So enough said, here's the link, Famous Amos' Secret Recipe. Enjoy!

Introducing: Oreo Pudeo

It's been a very long time since we came up with a new one to bring up to the AFookies family. Plus, it has been about 2 years since we first started AFookies. Aaaahhh those days *reminisce* ....

And in that 2 years, we have only made four cookies to be added to the AFookies lists. Can you imagine that? Only 4 cookies in 730 days? You guys must be thinking that we've been sitting around doing nothing all along. No! It's because we take it seriously. Introducing a new menu IS rocket science to us. We would allocate about 4 months for us to actually do our homework (research), testing, retrieving comments or opinions, re-testing until we think that we have found the perfect recipe for the particular cookie. It has been a tough journey for us to find the right ingredients, amount and everything else for this one. Introducing, Oreo Pudeo!

Catchy name huh? We tried to come up with something different earlier but after discussing for a period of time, we're agreed to use this name instead, sounds more...mouth-watering hehe. Now let's talk about the ingredients. We're going to tell you guys our secret ingredients, yup, very unusual indeed.

Firstly, 37% of the cookies are made up of oreo, despite of the name, duhh. Delicious, chocolatey melt-in-your-mouth kind of oreo. Next, we added a special ingredient called, 'cookies and cream' which brings out the sweet oreo taste more than you can ever imagine. Because of the 'cream' in it, you'll  notice a slight creamy, buttery taste. If you don't, then your taste buds are just...wrong. The last part, we added something that allows the cookies to actually melt in your mouth. Something very subtle, and inevitable. You'll get the idea! That's as far as we can guys!

We have more photos to share with!

 Who ate that one!?

Here's something different, if you notice, all of our cookies, they have this air-spaced kind of texture, just like Famous Amos (our rival ), that makes the cookies taste superb! There's a secret to this, really.

Don't worry, we are still matching our prices with the other competitors. As hard as it is, to make these, they're still cheap and affordable, all for you guys! The prices for Oreo Pudeo is the same as White Chocolate Chunk's, that is;

100 grams - RM 8.00
250 grams - RM17.00
1400 grams - RM 85.00

That's all from us this time guys! We are opening our doors to Oreo Pudeo now! Happy ordering! ;)

How To Adjust Your Oven's Temperature

The oven's temperature plays a big role in determining your baking results. You would either get your cookies crispy, crunchy or chunky, based on the temperature used. Not many people know about this since they thought that ingredients are the bulging factors for that perfect cookie!

Each point of temperature used produce different results. Two main things that you've got to remember,

1) The lower the temperature, the slower your cookies will get cooked, the crispier/crunchier they will be.
2) The higher the temperature, the faster your cookies will get cooked, the chunkier they will be.

It would be your choice on how you want them to be. Some people would prefer the crispier versions, and some, vice versa. If you ask us, it depends on our customers since we take special requests!

We're not saying that you should go as lowest as you can, or as high as you can to get your preferred results, instead, you should try and experiment with different temperatures for each batch of cookies you bake. There is always a perfect temperature point for each recipe that you use. Our best advice? Experiment!

Also, every oven is designed differently but they have this same function where you can set your thermal fan to focus at the middle part of the oven, lower, or upper. It is always a good thing to focus it at the middle since heat will be transferred evenly throughout the middle part. So where do you from here? Place your trays of cookie dough at the middle so that they will be cooked evenly. Always check and shift your trays as well.

That's all folks! :P

How To Make Your Cookies Taste Better

I think anyone who bakes something, wishes their result(s) to be better than what it is. There are secrets and tips to actually get this done. Some would call for a better, more quality ingredient, secret techniques...or a secret ingredient. But nothing would coincide unless you have this one simple idea that you must not forget, EVER.

Get your measurements right!

...and that is why measurement cups are made with high precision! Such inferior equipments would disallow you to produce supreme results. You can't bake something that you'd wish to produce to be the same as what the comments told you so. Every aspect and corner of the instructions of that one particular recipe must not be taken lightly.

Since we are expertise in cookies (our market niche), we are going to tell you several things that you can do to manipulate your results' affection.

1) Cookies are a bit different than other confectionnaries. You are allowed to experiment with the amount of ingredients to be included, but never estimate them, instead, jot down the amount of ingredients that you've tried to get that perfect result. (Not suitable for cakes)

2) Butter plays a big role in baking. So now you know that you're in for another quest...quest for that perfect butter! :)

So that's it! Once you commence all of these tips, you know you're up for something that any people would like!
