Happy 2nd Birthday AFookies!

Guess what day is today?! It's our 2nd birthday! How time flies! So much that we've been through and it's our 2nd year already! And of course, we are excited about it! We've been receiving a lot of wishes from our fans, alhamdulillah, we appreciate them very much! We wouldn't be here if it's not because of you guys! :).

About 3 days earlier, we thought that maybe we should do something  a bit different this time, so we set up a poll where anybody can add their ideas for our next-limited-cookie-creation. The one who gets the most winner would get the cookies with the proposed idea for free, 250g that is! :D. Turns out, a guy name Syahiir Ghazali on Facebook won the contest with his proposed MnM cookies idea! And yes he joined us for our baking session today! The rest of the batch? They're sold only for this one time! They're limited! Yes they're finished! :D.

 The unbaked!

BAKED! :D

Beyonce's Daughter & Eggs Replacements

Okay haha I know this is nothing related to cookies at all! But yeah I'll get to that later!

What I'm gonna post this time is ways on how u can replace eggs whenever you intend to bake cookies! Can't find any eggs at home? Lazy to go out and grab some? No big deal! You'll be surprised that there are actually a lot of ways for you to replace them...or it, just in case your recipe requires 1 egg only!

So these are the optional ingredients that you can use!

1) Corn syrup
2) Peanut butter
3) Marshmallows
4) Jam
5) Melted chocolate

Obviously melted chocolate is my favourite one! All 5 acts as the same binding agent as eggs but yess you guess it! Eggs do the perfect job in getting all of the creamables, dry ingredients together!

And if you use marshmallows, it is much advisable to melt them in microwave for seconds and QUICKLY mix them with the other ingredients. If you don't they'll become like rubber! No kidding!

Okay so Jay Z made a song for his daughter (Blue Ivy Carter). Beyonce loves it! What can you say, it's DOPE! And it's sweet!

Barts Cookies

Okay so I was strolling over Youtube videos for ideas on cookie packaging and I found this video from Barts Cookies (www.bartscookies.com). His cookies sure look good but they ain't crispy as ours. Their concept is more towards puffy and chewy cookies, something like that. But I love the oozing melted chocolate chips from the cookies. Makes you feel like having them right away! Ordering them...I mean.

I tried to google search an image from their website but couldn't find any. So here's a video from their Youtube channel. So this is how they pack their cookies. Easy. Not much of a presentation but ensures safety for deliveries. I wonder if this Bart guy is still baking now?

And I went to check out the website too, and found out, that the website was even visited by Malaysian residents! Quite a lot of Malaysian are consuming his cookies! Talking about branding here! He's kind of good! Despite Bart is actually a trainer and a lecturer as well.

How To Store Your Cookies

Okay so quite a lot of you wondered and asked, 'how do i keep the cookies without getting them stale?'. Clearly you guys did not do your homework HAHA!

Okay so there are two methods for you to use, depending on the kind of cookies that you wanna store. These two kinds are, the soft cookies and the crisp cookies. As for AFookies, we only make crisp cookies, FOR NOW! :D.

So this is how you keep your soft cookies,

-Store them in a container with a tight lid

-Soft cookies have a lot of moisture in them, so if they tend to dry out, add a slice of apple to the container

And this is how you keep crisp cookies (or AFookies),

-Crisp cookies should be kept in a container with a loose lid, but tight enough to prevent air ventilation

-Crisp cookies are supposed to be dry, so if they catch moisture, redry them by putting a piece of bread to the container to absorb moisture

That's all folks!

7 Fun Facts About Cookies !

Hey everyone! Well I think everybody knows what a cookie is, nearly most of the world's population would come across at least a piece of cookie on the kitchen table HAHA! Cookies can be broken down into finer details, there are many more kinds of cookies that ever created or invented in this world. Here we would like to share something very interesting with you COOKIE MONSTERS! ( We love our cookie monsters, truly, you guys are the best! Thank you so much everyone!!!).

7 Fun Facts About Cookies!

 Credits to fifteenspatulas.com

1) Biscotti cookies are famous around the world! You can find them anywhere at your nearby general stores. They are best enjoyed with a hot or warm cup of tea and they also have varieties and flavours! But did you know that biscotti cookies are baked twice? They are called as 'cantuccini' in several areas. So if you're in Italy, Prato where biscotti is originated from, and you're craving for biscottis, make sure you say cantuccinis instead of biscottis! :D

Ruth Graves Wakefield

2) Out of the vast varieties of cookies in the United States, Chocolate Chip Cookies are the most popular among all. (If you ask us, 'A-Fookies !', it would be Caramel Pudding Cookies and also Oreo Pudeo!). Did you know that chocolate chip cookies were made by accident? A very big thank you from all the people across the world to Ruth Graves Wakefield (check out this grandma, she's kinda hot though HAHA...when she was young), who experimented her dough in 1933 to replace nuts with chocolate chips! She then set up her business named Toll House which was actually an inn previously and remained the number one pioneer in cookie making and morsels till now!

The Persians (King Darius, centre)

3) Did you know that cookies are actually firstly originated from Persia which was made around in 7 A.D. I'm not sure whether you Cookie Monsters ever heard of cookie bars before but these cookies made by the Persians should somehow look like that though they are actually more known as cookie cakes!

4) Have you ever watched the movie, 'Shrek' before? Remember that Gingerman who puked chocolate chips? HAHA! Gingerbread cookies from Germany were the first cookies ever associated with Christmas around the world. Strange, and we thought that they were associated in America!

A fortune cookie!

5) Who says those fortune cookies from Chinatown in America were originated from the Chinese? These are just movies influences! They are associated with the Japanese, basing the recipe with the traditional Japanese's cracker. Generally, they are made by the Japanese, popularized by the Chinese and consumed by the Americans!

6)Well they say that you will consume about 35,000 pieces of cookies in your lifetime, but with 'A-Fookies!', you'll consume MORE! Uncountable, that is! :D

This is somehow scary...still

7) Aaahh...Sesame Street, childhood times, *reminiscing*...okay stop. That Cookie Monster from Sesame Street who sounded like someone who can't even sing at all was originally named Sid!

Well do spread this to your friends! Let everybody know about this! You are not a Cookie Monster if you don't know any of these 7 fun facts about cookies! :P

Famous Amos' Secret Recipe

Okay it's not that as if we were to compare ours and theirs (though we actually did HEHE) but it sure looks like everyone has been looking forward to know more about their recipe, so we did a bit of a research and we found this, a quite entrusted link for their mulit-million dollar secret recipe. Not sure whether it is real or fake thought it sure seems like a joke to us HAHA. As we all know, their cookies taste GREAT. Like seriously, everyone loves Famous Amos, especially when you walked past by their kiosk, you'll feel tempted to go and buy their cookies right away! Still, they have one disadvantage, their cookies are a bit too sweet. It depends on people's preferences, really. We make cookies that are satisfying to all of the consumers taking notes of their texture, sweetness and taste and we are glad that people have been complimenting, saying that ours came to their liking, thank you guys!!! So enough said, here's the link, Famous Amos' Secret Recipe. Enjoy!

Introducing: Oreo Pudeo

It's been a very long time since we came up with a new one to bring up to the AFookies family. Plus, it has been about 2 years since we first started AFookies. Aaaahhh those days *reminisce* ....

And in that 2 years, we have only made four cookies to be added to the AFookies lists. Can you imagine that? Only 4 cookies in 730 days? You guys must be thinking that we've been sitting around doing nothing all along. No! It's because we take it seriously. Introducing a new menu IS rocket science to us. We would allocate about 4 months for us to actually do our homework (research), testing, retrieving comments or opinions, re-testing until we think that we have found the perfect recipe for the particular cookie. It has been a tough journey for us to find the right ingredients, amount and everything else for this one. Introducing, Oreo Pudeo!

Catchy name huh? We tried to come up with something different earlier but after discussing for a period of time, we're agreed to use this name instead, sounds more...mouth-watering hehe. Now let's talk about the ingredients. We're going to tell you guys our secret ingredients, yup, very unusual indeed.

Firstly, 37% of the cookies are made up of oreo, despite of the name, duhh. Delicious, chocolatey melt-in-your-mouth kind of oreo. Next, we added a special ingredient called, 'cookies and cream' which brings out the sweet oreo taste more than you can ever imagine. Because of the 'cream' in it, you'll  notice a slight creamy, buttery taste. If you don't, then your taste buds are just...wrong. The last part, we added something that allows the cookies to actually melt in your mouth. Something very subtle, and inevitable. You'll get the idea! That's as far as we can guys!

We have more photos to share with!

 Who ate that one!?

Here's something different, if you notice, all of our cookies, they have this air-spaced kind of texture, just like Famous Amos (our rival ), that makes the cookies taste superb! There's a secret to this, really.

Don't worry, we are still matching our prices with the other competitors. As hard as it is, to make these, they're still cheap and affordable, all for you guys! The prices for Oreo Pudeo is the same as White Chocolate Chunk's, that is;

100 grams - RM 8.00
250 grams - RM17.00
1400 grams - RM 85.00

That's all from us this time guys! We are opening our doors to Oreo Pudeo now! Happy ordering! ;)

The Elimination.

Yes.

I believe the title of this time's entry is pretty much apparent to all, is it not? (;
Sooooo. We made our way to Shah Alam for our 2nd pitch on September 23rd. Nervous as we felt when entering the NTV7 building, we saw the grandeur of a professional filming equipment. Done as we're told and everything else, the first contestant was due to pitch the investors. Out of the 3 present contestants (us, inclusive), we were the last to #MakeThePitch.

It was time. We summoned all courage and mustered it into pitching them investors. Our effort was supreme, I would say. Or at least, I felt so :]

We had to wait for about 10 minutes before the announcement (or elimination, if any) was made.

That was when we were told that we did not make it. Now, now. We're not ashamed of our defeat. In fact, we are proud for every single thing we've done for A-Fookies ! as far as we have ventured ourselves in this business ever since the brand came to public nearly two years ago. No doubt, we felt our dream of having our first cafe opened come crashing down on our faces. After the show (to which my watch showed it was 15 to 10pm), we had a little talk or mentorship from the panel of judges themselves! Had an absolutely amazing talk with them. For every word uttered, it came as a spirit of encouragement. Shows how little we know about the biz and real world, really.

As of now, we are getting a few offers from different parties that are seemingly interested in investing in A-Fookies ! How's that for me and Amir who just got eliminated from the show, eh? :D. The chit chat we had with the investors and offers gained that night really uplifted our spirit to bounce back after we have hit the bottom. Yes, yes, yes.

Believe, and you will succeed. Always been our motto ;)

Somewhere in the neighbourhood of 12am, we saw how late it was and headed straight for home. Buuuut! We saw McDonald's Drive Thru near a petrol station in Shah Alam. Amir was famished and so was I. So, you can guess that our eyes were quite fixed on the banner :B. Bought burgers, drinks and everything and stopped at one corner of the petrol station to gorge ourselves with the treats. Yeah, 8 tormenting and nerve-wrecking hours WITHOUT food. That feeling of anxiety we had for over a period had its effect on us alright.

I've got some photos to share with you during our 2nd (and what seemed to be our last) pitch. ENJOY! :)

Taaaaake ONE! :)

"Look at mah phone, Anis!"

"Amir, stop camwhoring." :P

"Ohohoo, this is sooo going on Facebook, Twitter and everywhere else!"

"I'm being makeup-ed! :D"

"Howdy, y'all hehe."

Pssstt! There's also a video of me during the makeup session. Don't know if you can watch the video or not cause I can't :/. Click here!

For whatever that's done, we are thankful. Alhamdulillah for the opportunities given. InsyaAllah, we will rise once more and make everyone proud of us.

Losing had never felt this... good?

Appointments.

So, we've managed to get ourselves a few appointments with some awesome cafes around Damansara and Kuala Lumpur.

The Tea Republic - Coming soon.
The Upstairs Cafe - Still under discussion.
The Real And Wholesome (RAW) Cafe - September 17th.

Alhamdulillah. We had The Tea Republic approaching us yesterday asking if we'd like to have our cookies on their shelves on a consignment basis. Opportunity doesn't knock twice, they say. As of now, we have agreed to the matter but till further agreement is made, the deal is remained unsealed.

Hey, guys! If you know any good cafes in the vinicity of Damansara and Kuala Lumpur, please feel free to let us know! We just might give you some recognition on it, too! ;)
